Max Allegri said Gigi Buffon “was decisive for the result” after Juventus won 3-0 away to Atalanta.

“It was a great victory, Roma won earlier, so there was even more pressure on us to win. It wasn’t easy, as Atalanta are particularly strong on home turf,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We struggled in the opening 10 minutes and didn’t clear the ball properly, so we tended to be caught out. The lads did well, then Buffon was decisive for the result.”

Buffon saved a German Denis penalty when it was still 1-0 and moments later Carlos Tevez added a second goal.

“I think the difference between Buffon and all other goalkeepers is that he can barely be tested throughout the game, yet still come up with the decisive save when he’s needed. That’s how you can tell a real champion.

“I rested Pogba midweek and Vidal needs to play in order to find his form. Morata did very well when he came off the bench and even scored, so there’s a fine team spirit throughout.

“Our tactics also depend on how the opponents come towards us, as we can start moves with a four-man defence or three.

“We defend better away from the goal than close to it, which isn’t easy and requires a lot of concentration. There were times tonight when we defended with five, as the team was fatigued and we had to lower our energy output during that spell.

“We have quite a solid back line, but that’s also because the forwards work to help out. I don’t think we can go at 100mph every moment of the match, so there are times when you need to slow the tempo.”

Allegri was asked whether Tevez was just as important to Juventus and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was for his Scudetto-winning Milan.

“Tevez is truly proving all his worth, scoring goals, creating them, working hard, sacrificing himself for the team and dictating the tempo.

“Is he like Ibrahimovic was for Milan? They are different players, but they share that constant desire to win. Tevez gives the team a big hand during times of difficulty.”
