Giampiero Ventura joked he would’ve “dropped dead on the pitch” if Torino missed the penalty against Copenhagen.

Fabio Quagliarella converted the spot-kick with the last move of the Europa League game to secure a 1-0 victory.

“After missing two penalties in a row we had to score this one, otherwise I would’ve just dropped dead on the pitch!” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“We certainly deserved the victory and winning this way made it even more joyous. I celebrated like that to shake off the tension that had accumulated.

“We created so many chances and dominated a Copenhagen side that was in the Champions League last season.

“We are getting better and are studying to become a great team. If we play like this then we might not necessarily win every match, but we will put any opponent under serious pressure.”

Toro are still struggling to score goals, but Ventura insisted the team is “not dependent on Quagliarella.”

The Granata are now joint top of their Europa League group with Club Brugge on four points.

This was the first European game proper hosted by Torino since 1993-94, so is the next step targeting Champions League qualification.

“That would be the ultimate Torino objective! It would certainly take a long time, but I’d like to hear the Champions League theme tune echoing around this stadium.”
