Pippo Inzaghi says he had wanted to keep hold of Alberto Paloschi, as he outlines Milan’s desire to return to title contention, but only with patience.

The Rossoneri look to continue their rejuvenation project under their new Coach this Saturday evening at home to Chievo.

“We have prepared well, we are glad to get back in front of the fans. We need their warmth, this team needs the help of the people,” Inzaghi began to reporters today.

When others say that we have spirit, it is a beautiful thing. I am confident, otherwise I would not have accepted this task.

“It will take a bit of time. To start over you need to realise that you cannot solve all the problems straight away. What makes me comfortable is the attitude of my players. And this is the thing that keeps me calm.

“And the formation tomorrow? What counts is the attitude and how we go on to the field, so that we can win within a system of play.

“Mentality and attitude lead to the playing system. The team may also change during the course of the game.

“We know Chievo, they have a very good Coach. We expect a tough game as all in Serie A are. Three points against Chievo would be key to closing this part of the season.

“I hope that there is a great performance. Whilst there are lapses and it is not always easy to recover from these, it is true that we have created something.”

Speculation has been that Stephan El Shaarawy could return to the starting line-up, whilst Jeremy Menez has been a doubt since midweek suffering with an inflamed tendon.

“Menez should train with us, then we will evaluate the line-up based on training.”

“I do not know if I will start with El Shaarawy. I think to playing him in a 4-3-3 because it enhances him. I respect him greatly, he had a very good match against Lazio.

“Against Juventus he played and I kept Bonaventura benched. We have seven forward, I will always look to play four and I was hoping to have El Shaarawy at Cesena.

“He has the good fortune to be in an environment that loves him. We know his value, it is up to me to play him in the ideal position. I will look to him a lot.

“And Honda? I have always said that he has the right attitude. All the evidence is reassuring – he plays well, he makes himself available and he scores.

“A Coach takes into account all these things. He is in good physical condition. At Cesena I took him off as sometimes you have to play in a different way. As I have said, four must play from the beginning.”

For the options open in attack, Milan have yet to keep a clean sheet under Inzaghi.

“It’s always important not to concede. We hope to achieve this. For the football we propose it will always be difficult for games to end 0-0, but I love the beautiful game.

“And I love Milan to win to make the fans happy. When you concede goals, the blame lies with everyone, not just the defence.

“I believe that the focus must be there. We are not the only ones to concede from set-pieces. It’s a part of football and I hope that it happens as little as possible.

“On Sunday we were caught out, now we hope to give a better account of ourselves.”

The club are introducing new pre-match entertainment initiatives at San Siro, including Milan Village and on-pitch initiatives before kick-off.

“I think these are wonderful initiatives, people will be able to see before the game. It may be that people are even more energised, my players need the fans.”

Alberto Paloschi spoke this week of his affinity with his former teammate from their playing time together at Milan. The striker is back at San Siro for the first time since the Rossoneri sold him outright this summer.

“I am very pleased with what he has said. I tried to lend him a hand when we were playing at Milan.

“I knew he was a good kid, I was sorry when he left. I was thinking of him too – when he was sold we had Balotelli, Pazzini and Matri.

“It would have been selfish to have him compete alongside the three. He will have a great career, he wants to work and when he goes on holiday he does so with a trainer.”

Juventus and Roma are already stretching out a lead and their Week 6 meeting is seen as one between the two candidates to win the Scudetto.

“They are dominating the League, it is going to be a balanced game.

“Is it our motivation to return to the title fight? It will take patience, but we must have the ambition to return to fight for the title soon.

“Milan must live for the day. We have to bring people back to the stadium and for them to be proud of us.”
