Fabio Borini has revealed he intends to take advantage of the new-look Italy set-up once he has broken into the Liverpool first team.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make his mark at Anfield since arriving from Roma two years ago, but he rejected moves away over the summer to concentrate on proving his worth to Brendan Rodgers.

Borini’s agent recently emphasised his client’s happiness at Liverpool, and the striker, who was loaned out to Sunderland last season, has now echoed those sentiments.

“Step by step, I want to earn my place in the first team,” he said at a Liverpool fans’ event.

“Once I’ve done that, my intention is to stay there, score goals and beat my record in the Premier League.

“I have not changed my personality, but I have definitely improved my game.

“The national team? With a new Coach, a new system and a new structure, it certainly can be a good objective for me.”
