Khouma Babacar believes his wonder strike in Fiorentina’s 3-0 victory over Inter last weekend was the most important goal of his career to date.

Currently deputising for the injured Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi, the 21-year-old netted his second of the season to start the scoring against the Nerazzurri last weekend.

“I celebrated that over a pizza with friends,” Babacar has told Radioblu today at a charity event.

“But the Coach told me that I must learn to also score the ugly goals – I still have to work very hard.

“I celebrated that over a pizza with friends,” Babacar has told Radioblu today at a charity event.

“But the Coach told me that I must learn to also score the ugly goals – I still have to work very hard.

“The goal was very important for me, perhaps my most important, because I faced [Samir] Handanovic.

“I’m always at the Coach’s disposal, depending on whether I am partnered with Gomez or Bernardeschi.

“The fans are great, they are always close to the team. After the goal [against Inter], I received many messages, even on Facebook.

“I have always been the same. I always try to think positively and want to improve each day. I never thought about leaving, but my adventure in Florence could have ended.

“I always said to myself, ‘one day you will return to Florence’. I have to thank my agent and family for helping me.”

In conjunction with Fiorentina’s sponsorship deal, Babacar was speaking at a Save the Children charity event in Roma, where he was joined by a delegation of Viola officials, including sporting director Daniele Prade.

“I'm happy to participate in such an event [Save the Children], because it is important to save the children of the world,” he added.

“It gives me a great pleasure to be here today – the pride to represent my country. It’s nice to see so many people giving aid to help the children.”
