Verona striker Nene reveals he was forced to turn down an offer from Milan while he was still at Cagliari.

The Brazilian is currently playing for Hellas Verona and his next Serie A game is against the Rossoneri.

“After six months at Cagliari I had some contact with Milan, but one day Cellino decided I would have to stay,” Nene told Sky Sport Italia.

By his timing, that approach arrived in January 2010.

“I had arrived in Italy from Portugal and had the chance to join Milan, a club that nobody would turn down. It would’ve been the opportunity of a lifetime, but I had a contract and could do nothing.

“We’re playing Milan on our own turf next weekend, so we can win this.”

Nene faces a lot of competition for places at Verona, where his teammates include Luca Toni and Javier Saviola.

“We all want to do well and remain united even in moments of difficulty. At Cagliari I played in various different positions, so I know to be ready when called upon.”
