Totti was furious after a 3-2 defeat in Turin, telling reporters that “by hook or by crook Juventus always win.”
The Bianconeri reacted angrily to these insinuations, but ex-Juventus player Schillaci saw them a different way.
“Totti is a great champion, he gave his reaction in the heat of the moment, but then you go back and reflect on what you’ve said,” Schillaci told Radio Radio.
“Juve, aside from the game itself, have nothing to do with it. You go on to the field to win. Totti got stuff off his chest in a certain way and really wanted to win, so at times an outburst is acceptable.
“Saying such things hurts, but they are said because of love for the shirt. I also said some things in the moment and then thought better of them later on.
“Juve are the most loved team in Italy and have won everything, but I’d like them to be competitive all the way in the Champions League again.”
