Whilst recent reports have been of potential talks between the Spaniard and Aurelio De Laurentiis on extending the Coach’s contract beyond next summer, reports in Naples today suggest Benitez may present an obstacle.

Il Mattino and Cronache di Napoli lead with suggestions that the Coach has already turned down one proposal to renew, after being disappointed with the club’s transfer activity in the summer.

It is believed that Benitez will only renew his contract if President De Laurentiis can convince him that the club is ready to build a side which can compete for the title, possibly by attaining funds from outside investors.

Should this not be forthcoming, Benitez is described as ready to leave, with a likely return to La Liga or the Premier League waiting, or the possibility of taking over the Spanish national team after Euro 2016.
