Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has thrown his backing behind Coach Walter Mazzarri, despite a disappointing start to the season.

The Nerazzurri lie 10th in Serie A, after successive heavy defeats to Cagliari” data-scaytid=”9″>Cagliari and Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”11″>Fiorentina. The 4-1 reverse at home to Cagliari drew whistles from the San Siro crowd, leading to suggestions that Mazzarri may be shown the exit. However, Ausilio insists the Coach has the full backing of the Inter board.

“We’re convinced that in the long-run the Coach’s work will pay off,” Ausilio has told Tuttosport.

“Mazzarri’s record speaks for itself – he always attains the targets set, even with Inter last year.

“This gives us confidence that sooner or later the hard work of a serious Coach will bear fruit.

“It’s important that we remain committed to our vision, as you would in any business in which you believe in the project which is being undertaken.

“Even Mancini and Mourinho were also whistled at San Siro. I’ve been at Inter for 17 years, I’ve seen it all.

“Italian culture is what it is, and we can’t change that. You’re never going to get a consensus, there will always be someone who thinks differently.

“If you lose 4-1 to Cagliari it would be surprising if there weren’t any whistles from the crowd.”

Speculation had been rife about Mazzarri’s future, with reports suggesting Sinisa Mihajlovic or even David Moyes could be set to take over the Nerazzurri bench.

However, President Erik Thohir is seen as still backing Mazzarri, and Ausilio underlines the entire club is behind the Coach.

“Mazzarri is not alone. We are all behind him. In Italy when something goes wrong you’re forced to make someone a scapegoat. Today Mazzarri is being demonised, but in the past it’s happened to others.

“Two games where things have gone wrong are a comparatively small matter compared to our long-term project.

“Thohir confirmed the Coach? Personally I never had any doubts. The whole team is focussed on how to overcome the physical issues and the mental fragility which was displayed [in the 3-0 defeat] in Florence.”
