Massimiliano Allegri said he “knew there were difficulties” after Juventus were held 1-1 by Sassuolo, but won’t lose confidence.

“I knew there were difficulties in this game, especially as we had so many internationals out all week. Sassuolo were coming off some bad results, but with good performances,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“They created problems for us tonight, we didn’t have many shots on goal and this allowed them to get several counter-attacks. They pushed us back and made us run risks, even though Consigli saved them a few times. We should’ve done better.”

With the scoreline stuck on 1-1, Allegri moved to a 4-3-3 in the closing stages at the Mapei Stadium.

“We adjusted the tactical system in the second half and there was a little confusion. We could’ve done better on a technical level and brought home the victory even without a great performance. Otherwise, you risk losing.

“The draw must be accepted considering the performance and what didn’t go right this evening.”

“Llorente had a back problem and I tried to take away more reference points in attack, pushing the wingers into the box. We had some chances, didn’t finish the game and in the end got a draw.

“Sassuolo deserve credit for forcing us to play differently and making life difficult for us. We struggled at the start, then got the game in hand, but overall didn’t have enough shots on goal, even from distance.”

Sebastian Giovinco came on in the final minutes, by which stage it was late for him to change the tempo of the team.

“Giovinco did well when he came on. I waited to introduce him because after removing Llorente I had Tevez as a centre-forward and we were conceding a few too many counter-attacks. I needed Coman’s pace at that moment.”

This result means Juventus have lost their 100 per cent record and Roma are now just one point behind in the Serie A standings.

“We are still top of the table and a draw against Sassuolo doesn’t change anything. In Serie A you need consistency, so if in each seven games we win six and draw one, we’ll get the title!”
