Manchester United could be preparing a £15m January offer for Torino and Italy wing-back Matteo Darmian.

According to the Mirror newspaper in England, Louis van Gaal is impressed with the Toro player and prefers him to Dani Alves as a mid-season reinforcement.

Darmian has reportedly already been scouted by Manchester United staff and is admired for his versatility.

The 24-year-old can play on the right or left, as a full-back or a wing-back, and is capable of crossing with both feet.

Torino would be prepared to sell for around €19m (£15m) in January and has a contract until June 2017.

Darmian has 10 senior Italy caps to his name and played against England in the World Cup.

He grew up in the Milan youth academy, but was sold to Palermo in July 2010 and joined Torino for €1.8m just two years later.

Darmian would be just the latest Granata star to go abroad, as this summer Ciro Immobile was sold to Borussia Dortmund and Alessio Cerci went to Atletico Madrid.
