He was asked if he’d still have faith in Mazzarri if there was a negative result this evening and the response was not entirely reassuring.

“The Coach and I understand each other,” Thohir told Mediaset Premium. “At the start of the season we set out a plan. If we make decisions without clarity, that is dangerous.

“We go forward with our project and see what happens over the next two games, then there is always a moment to look back over the results.

“I believe in the project right now and at the end of the season we need to bring in results.”

Thohir has taken matters into his own hands, visiting the squad in the locker room this weekend.

“Yesterday I went to the team and explained the difference between winners and losers: the winners get back on their feet after being knocked down and keep fighting.

“This is what I learned in Italy, otherwise I wouldn’t be part of Inter. At the same time, when we play for Inter, we have to give our best.

“That is what the fans want. When we win, I am the first to celebrate, when we lose I am the first to suffer. Every Serie A game is difficult, but I firmly believe in the project and the team.

“There are many games to go, we must be a solid team. When we lose we have to see what went wrong and not do it in future, not blame each other.”
