Luigi Di Biagio has praised his Italy Under-21 side’s qualification to the European Championship finals, but warns that there’s still room for improvement.

The Azzurrini progressed to the 2015 tournament in the Czech Republic by beating Slovakia 4-2 on  aggregate in the play-off round.

“We’ve managed a great achievement,” the former Italy international told Radio Anch'io Sport today.

“We’ve managed a great achievement,” the former Italy international told Radio Anch'io Sport today.

“Qualification for the European Championships is a goal which seemed unthinkable at the start of the campaign, given the quality of our opponents.

“When you think about the fact we started from scratch with a new direction, right now more of our players are playing for their respective clubs, and this gives us optimism.

“However, we can always do better. Now we have two objectives – to get as far as possible in the European Championships and qualify for the next Olympics.”
