Former Italy CT Marcello Lippi hints at Azzurro success at Euro 2016 under Antonio Conte, and reveals his intentions around retirement.

Lippi guided the national team to a World Cup triumph in 2006, and believes in Conte the country has another Coach who can lead them to glory.

“Conte is one of the few Coaches in whom you can see his impact after just three months,” Lippi told Politica nel Pallone this week.

“He’s immediately stamped his mark on the team, giving them great determination and desire, which people love to see, especially when it comes to the national team.

“The national team is playing in his image.

“Can we win Euro 2016? When we went to the World Cup in Germany, we didn’t expect to be able to win, but then we realised that we could…”

After an ill-fated return to the Italy bench, Lippi moved to China, taking charge of Guangzhou Evergrande and becoming the first Coach to win both the Asian and European Champions League.

With Guangzhou on the verge of winning the Chinese title, could Lippi make a return to European football when his Chinese sojourn ends?

“We’re six points ahead of second place with two games to go. If we get a point against Beijing who are in second we’ll win the title again.

“After the experience in China I will say ‘enough’. This will be my last job as a Coach.”
