Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Mario Balotelli will be sold by the Reds before the start of next season.

Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Mario Balotelli will be sold by the Reds before the start of next season.

Balotelli has been widely criticised since his €20m to Anfield from Milan, and was substituted at half-time during his side’s 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid last night – but not before swapping shirts with opponent Pepe.

“I can’t change the way I feel about Balotelli, and that’s nothing to do with what he’s done in a Liverpool shirt,” Carragher has told Sky in reaction.

“It’s what he’s done at Man City, what he’s done at Milan.

“Do I think he’s going to be here long term? No. I’d be surprised to see him here next season if I’m being honest. These players, who are continually moved on: it’s for a reason.”

Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Balotelli after the match, saying the 24-year-old ‘wasn’t the worst performer’ yesterday evening.

Carragher appeared to echo Ancelotti’s sentiments, while criticising the Italy international’s work rate.

“I wouldn’t say that was the worst I’ve seen Balotelli play.

“I wouldn’t say he was by far Liverpool’s worst player. He [Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers] has taken him off because he wanted more intensity.

“We spoke about that [lack of intensity] before the game. I don’t think what he did in the first half was a surprise to anyone or the manager.”
