Verona have been temporarily successful in appealing a one-game partial closure of their stadium for racist chanting.

The Butei were ordered by the League to close the Curva Sud of the Bentegodi for their next home match in Serie A, as punishment for racist chants ‘distinctly heard’ and aimed at Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari on Sunday.

However, the club denied the chants occurred, received backing from their Week 7 opponents and took the League’s decision to an appeal.

That was heard today by the Court of Appeals and the club have been confirmed as successful in overturning the original decision, and so will be able to have the Curva Sud available for their next home game, against Lazio in Week 9 next Thursday.

However, the original sanction, which also includes a €50,000 fine, is only temporarily suspended pending an additional investigation.
