Sampdoria are unbeaten so far this season, and sit joint-third in Serie A after a 0-0 draw with Roma at the Marassi on Saturday night, a game which their new owner believes they could have won.
“If we had a bit more luck in the second half with Roma, when we created three scoring chances, the Romanisti would have been waking up in a sweat this morning!” Ferrero has joked to Il Secolo XIX.
“Sinisa [Mihajlovic] is right, the improvement in the mindset of the lads should be emphasised.
“If we hadn’t had a man sent off in Palermo [left-back Vasco Regini], and we hadn’t gifted Cagliari a goal we’d have been even higher in the table.”
Despite their lofty position in Serie A, Ferrero insists the team will not rest with merely competing in the higher reaches of the table.
“Why should we be content with what we’re doing at the moment? It’s what we deserve, no-one has given us anything.
“I’m not one who is content, I like to win and I came to Genoa to do something special. I’ve said it before – the top of the table is elegant, so it’s suited to Sampdoria.
“It’s just pessimistic to always think something will go wrong. I’m saying we can do even better.
“It’s thanks to a great Coach, our gladiator Sinisa, who is working to make sure that none of our players feel inferior to anyone.
“Sinisa says constantly – and I agree – Samp must play the Sampdoria way. That’s how he wants them to play, to go out on the field to win against everyone.”
Sampdoria’s flying start to the season has led to speculation that Mihajlovic could soon be tempted to pastures new, with a return to Inter to replace Walter Mazzarri being mooted.
Ferrero though, insists that he wont let his Coach leave without a fight.
“The Coach is like a beautiful woman, desired by everyone, but at the moment he’s mine and I’ll hold on to him.
“Then it depends on what they decide, but for now he’s with me.”
