Alessandro Matri believes that the Genoa fans can inspire their team to victory over Juventus when the two meet at the Marassi tonight.

The Grifone striker – who won two Scudetti with the Turin giants – talked up the positive impact of the Genoese fans, and believes they can push the side to a positive result.

“I really want to score in front of our fans,” Matri told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“When people aren’t happy it’s a weight on our shoulders, because the strength Genoa have is our fans.

“They’re a weapon on our side. Against Juventus that could be crucial.

“Gaining a positive result could transform our season. Beating Juventus here, in our stadium, in front of our fans could really be the trigger for something special.”

Matri spent three seasons in Turin, but admits he’s a little bitter due to what he sees as a lack of recognition for his efforts.

“The names Matri and Quagliarella weren’t enough [for Juventus fans].

“But the year we won the first title it was a real team effort. I was top scorer with 10 goals.

“Did I score the goal that won the title [an equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Milan]? I think that’s true, but it went unnoticed, all anyone talked about from that game was Muntari’s disallowed goal.”
