Argentina manager Tata Martino said Carlos Tevez “deserved” his call-up, but is also tracking Juan Iturbe and Mauro Icardi.

Tevez had been away from international duty since the 2011 Copa America, but his fine performances for Juventus” data-scaytid=”11″>Juventus saw him called for next month’s friendlies against Croatia and Portugal.

“I called Tevez because he is a player who is doing well,” explained Martino.

“When I arrived, I was able to meet the Federal chiefs and ask them if there was a player I should not call. I was given carte blanche and therefore, for the next two games, I called Carlitos.

“I consider him to be a centre-forward, so he will challenge for a place with Aguero and Higuain. If we needed more than two strikers, well… we’ll see.”

Martino confirmed he is also keeping a close eye on some other Serie A stars.

“We are also tracking Roma’s Juan Iturbe and Mauro Icardi at Inter.”
