Pazzini has struggled for playing time this season and his wife posted a rant on Instagram complaining there was “no meritocracy” at Milan.

“That did not please me or the club,” noted Inzaghi in today’s Press conference. “Pazzo called straight away and clarified. He is not upset, we discussed it.

“I don’t need to throw anyone a bone, as I have many professional players who are all paid by Milan. Pazzini will play at the right moment.

“Palermo have a strong mentality, grit and desire, plus high quality players for a team fighting for safety. They are worthy worrying about, because you don’t score three goals away to Napoli without those characteristics.”

Milan are currently third in Serie A on a par with Lazio, Sampdoria and Udinese.

“I do not look at the table, but for the first time our fate depends only on us. There are seven or eight teams in the running and it takes just a moment to drop back down. Our performance against Cagliari wasn’t great, but they did have an extra 48 hours to rest and we made many changes.

“We have produced a little less in attack recently, but did better defensively. I am not worried, as we still have the most prolific attack in the League. Fernando Torres has always scored goals and he’ll do so here as well. I judge him on his movement and his work that helped Honda score many goals.

“If people had told us before the season began that after nine rounds we’d only lost to Juventus, we would’ve been happy with that.”

Inzaghi also confirmed that Diego Lopez “is 100 per cent fit” and could well play in goal tomorrow, while he hailed Mattia De Sciglio as “the future of Milan.

“I speak often to Niang and before the transfer session closed I told him it’d be better to go out on loan, but he wanted to stay and learn. He’s doing well, it’s a shame I can’t give him more playing time, but when Honda goes for the Asian Cup in January then he can fill in.”
