Pippo Inzaghi said Palermo “deserved the victory” after a “bad Milan performance, but it can help us grow.”

The Rossoneri had been unbeaten in six, but have now picked up just two points from the last three rounds.

“This is football,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after the 2-0 home defeat.

“I said yesterday that Palermo were tough, having done very well at Napoli. We hadn’t started that badly with Poli and Torres close, so if those chances had gone in it would’ve been a different game, but Palermo broke the deadlock and deserved the victory. We tip our hat to them.

“Nights like this can also help you grow. I take responsibility and from tomorrow we must roll our sleeves up. We can’t wait to get back on the field against Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”5″>Sampdoria to make up for this performance.”

A win would’ve put Inzaghi’s team in joint third place with Sampdoria, so it is a wasted opportunity.

“Milan have done some very positive things. We didn’t tonight, but I knew there were going to be troughs as well as peaks. Perhaps some people got ahead of themselves.

“It is a shame that we played like this at San Siro in front of the home fans. It was a bad performance and Palermo deserved the points.

“I expected it to be difficult to get Milan back to a certain level after finishing eighth with many new players. We had a surprisingly good start, but at times we struggle to react when going behind. I’ve seen other squads working with a Coach for a long time also running into similar problems.”

The Diavolo have kept only one clean sheet all season, although this was the first time they’ve let two in at home.

“We have players who can almost always find a goal, so the defensive movements are more important for me. When you suffer at the back, it means the whole team hasn’t worked well.

“Then Alex went off straight away, Zapata had to go on without a warm-up and he immediately felt some pain too. It was just one of those nights.

“I am the Coach, I’ll try to work out where I went wrong, but this squad must be allowed to grow in good time. It was a heavy blow, but we’ll get back up.

“I tried to change system and introduce almost all the strikers at my disposal. Perhaps the third game in seven days took its toll on our fitness levels. We must remember the team has done well until now and this was a stumble, but we’d be right back up there if we beat Sampdoria next week.”
