The 23-year-old was born in Germany from Italian parents and started his career at the Bayern Munich academy before moving to Sampdoria in January 2009.

Soriano today received his first senior Italy call-up for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia.

“From when I started playing football I always dreamed of the Azzurri jersey, even though I grew up in Germany,” he told the Sampdoria website.

“I always dreamed of representing Italy on the pitch. This call-up is therefore a dream come true. It’s a dream I want to share with my family, friends, all of Sampdoria and its fans, President Ferrero, Coach Mihajlovic and my teammates.

“I want to thank Coach Conte and the FIGC. I am ready to repay this faith in me with humility and hunger.”

Soriano has represented Italy at various youth levels, scoring two goals in 14 Under-21 caps.
