Andrea Mandorlini felt Verona “controlled the game” in the second half of their 2-2 draw with Inter.

Curiously, the last time Verona picked up points in this fixture, Mandorlini was playing for Inter in 1990.

“Good times!” the Hellas Coach joked on Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s always difficult to get points at San Siro, especially with our history. We wasted the chance to double our lead several times, then Inter pinned us back.

“In the second half, despite going a goal down, we had numerous scoring opportunities and in my view controlled the game, so a point was absolutely deserved.

“We did many positive things in the second half and I really liked that performance. Now I hope we can do that more consistently over a whole match and not just half of it.”

Nico Lopez scored the equaliser with an assist from fellow substitute Javier Saviola.

“Nico has ability and can be more consistent, but Saviola’s back-heel flick was worth the ticket price alone! Nico is often better coming off the bench because he is unpredictable, brings fresh legs and can cause problems for tired defences.

“We need to find the right tactic to balance everything, but Saviola certainly gave us a hand and can continue to do so this season.”

Luca Toni could’ve equalised earlier in the game, but saw his penalty parried by Samir Handanovic.

“Toni is really disappointed, especially as we had studied tapes of Handanovic and saw he always saves going down low, so the idea was to chip it.”
