Inter Coach Walter Mazzarri believes his side was unlucky in their 2-2 draw with Verona, as speculation mounts over the tactician’s future.

The Nerazzurri were only able to manage a 2-2 draw with Hellas at San Siro last night, with the team being whistled as they left the pitch.

President Erick Thohir reportedly held meetings post-match to decide whether to sack the former Napoli Coach.

Mazzarri was defiant in his post-match Press conference however, insisting his Inter are just unlucky and bemoaning Gary Medel’s sending off.

“Today [Sunday] my team played a good game, until our numerical disadvantage [Medel’s red card],” Mazzarri told journalists.

“We were unlucky in several incidents during the game, it wouldn’t have taken much more to get the win.

“I say this because I think if we work hard and use the resources we have to best effect, the project will slowly start to improve.

“Today [Sunday] is a bit different, you have to remember that we weren’t at our maximum. The only fresh players were Nagatomo and Icardi, the others have been playing two games every week.

“It’s normal that on a heavy pitch there was a drop-off, and the 10 who had played so many games suffered most.

“Verona had fresh legs to put us in difficulty.

“We deserved more today, things went wrong in just one spell.

“In the second half the header from Vidic came out of nowhere, then we made naive mistakes and didn’t stick to the tactics.

“Numerically however, it was a good performance, and if we can play like this against sides who are – on paper – better, who maybe leave more space, we can do well.”
