Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has thanked the Giallorossi fans after making his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury.

Strootman was sidelined for eight months after rupturing his cruciate ligament in a defeat to Napoli last term, but came off the bench during Roma’s 3-0 victory over Torino yesterday.

The Dutchman thanked the Olimpico faithful for their support, and insists that this year’s Roma side is stronger than the one which finished second last year.

“First of all, thank you,” said Strootman, expressing his gratitude to Roma TV.

“It was difficult after the injury. I’ve worked for eight months now [to get back]. I spoke to the Coach before the game, and after it went to 3-0 he put me on.

“Our team is stronger than last year, I can see that in training. We have to win it all, that’s important for us.

“I worked for eight months to get back onto the field and salute our fans. I received messages of support every day, on social media, but at [Roma’s training ground] Trigoria too.

“It was an emotional evening.”
