Inter have confirmed that they have relieved Walter Mazzarri of his duties as first team Coach, ahead of Roberto Mancini’s imminent arrival.

Mazzarri had come under pressure from fans and media after a disastrous run of results saw the Nerazzurri slip to ninth in the Serie A table.

Despite giving the former Napoli tactician his public backing on a number of occasions, Inter President Erick Thohir’s decision to take action has now been confirmed by the club.

“FC Internazionale would like to announce that Walter Mazzarri has been relieved of his duties as first team coach.” Inter confirmed in a statement on their official website.

“The club would like to thank Mazzarri for the commitment, dedication and professionalism he showed over his 17 months in charge.

“Today's training session will be taken by Giuseppe Baresi.”

Roberto Mancini is expected to be announced as Mazzarri’s immediate replacement. The 49-year-old spent four years on the San Siro bench between 2004 and 2008, winning three Scudetti and two Coppa Italias before being replaced by Jose Mourinho.
