Ex-Inter star Fulvio Collovati trusts Roberto Mancini will bring a “winning mentality,” but Walter Mazzarri wasn’t entirely at fault.

It is a return to San Siro for Mancio, who was already at the helm from 2004 to 2008, winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup on multiple occasions. He will hold a Press conference today at 13.00 GMT.

“I don’t think it’s fair to give all the responsibility to Mazzarri,” Collovati told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“Unfortunately he arrived during a delicate time for the club, when it was being handed over from Massimo Moratti to Erick Thohir. Everyone struggled during this transition period and there wasn’t enough clarity on what was happening.

“Another reason why Mazzarri couldn’t give his best is the current squad, which is not suited to challenging for the top positions.

“There are three or four sides at the moment who are superior to Inter. Clearly there was also a lack of results and the Coach is usually the first to pay for that.”

Mancini had been out of contract after leaving Galatasaray, so does his return to San Siro represent a good move?

“He was the best choice they could’ve made at this moment,” insisted Collovati.

“He’s a winning Coach, charismatic and the club has great faith in him for a long-term project. I think this move was made in order to give the team the right shake-up ahead of the Milan Derby.

“Mancini was a great Coach, he will certainly make for a much more attacking Inter. He’ll bring a winning mentality.”

Collovati was a centre-back at Inter from 1982 to 1986, won the World Cup with Italy and is now a pundit at RAI.
