Gigi Buffon said Italy’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Croatia is “not a game like the others, as we’re both humble and ambitious.”

It is due to kick off at San Siro on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, although there are concerns about torrential rain and flash floods in Milan.

“Tomorrow will not be a game like the others, because these groups are put together between prestigious teams and so-called minnows,” said the goalkeeper in a Press conference.

“This will be one of those matches that lights up interest. There will be international level players and we are curious to measure ourselves up against Croatia.

“We are both humble and ambitious at the same time, because we are Italy and our football history speaks for us.

“We really want to impress tomorrow and convince the fans that this team is still alive and kicking.

“It is going to be a difficult and important game, corresponding to the respect we have for our opponents.”

Buffon was asked whether he’d like to win Euro 2016 as, along with the World Cup, that would mean equalling the Italy record of legendary goalkeeper Dino Zoff.

“I have to get there first and there’s still a year-and-a-half! We don’t want to have regrets and to achieve that we need to put everything we’ve got on to that pitch.

“Having said that, comparisons mean little.”
