Matteo Darmian feels Italy will learn from their 1-1 draw with Croatia, but preferred the four-man defence.

“Our growth process also goes through this evening. We knew Croatia would be tough and we picked up a precious point for our Euro 2016 campaign,” the Torino defender told Rai Sport.

Darmian was used as a centre-back, but then Antonio Conte switched to a four-man defence in the second half.

“I think with four defenders we were able to cover the pitch more and then after a while we emerged from our shells and caused them problems too.

“It was a good point, Croatia have a great deal of quality and we have to consider it a positive night.”
