UEFA have confirmed that they have opened disciplinary proceedings against Italy and Croatia for disturbances during their Euro 2016 qualifier.

Sunday’s eventual 1-1 draw at San Siro was halted for 10 minutes during the second half when sections of the travelling Croat support launched flares and fireworks on to the playing surface.

UEFA have confirmed that as a result of that, the crowd disturbances also apparent and ‘racist behaviour’, Italy and Croatia have had disciplinary proceedings opened against them.

“Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the European Qualifier group H match between Italy and Croatia (1-1), played on 16 November in Milan:

– Italy: Setting off of fireworks (Article 16 (2) (c) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations);

– Croatia: Racist behaviour (Article 14 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations); crowd disturbances (Article 16 (2) (h) DR); setting off of fireworks and missiles (Article 16 (2) (b) & (c) DR)

“The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 11 December 2014,” reads the statement released today by the European game’s governing body.
