Massimiliano Allegri reveals that he could have joined Lazio in the summer, and reiterates that Napoli are still in the title race.

Allegri replaced Antonio Conte on the Juventus bench this summer, while Stefano Pioli took over at Lazio, but the Bianconeri Coach says things could have been very different, and praises Saturday’s opponents.

“This summer I spoke with Lazio,” the Coach admitted to the Press in a conference ahead of Juventus’ game with Lazio tomorrow.

“I spoke with President Lotito, but we didn’t find an agreement and didn’t do anything. Then fortunately I arrived at Juventus.

“Lazio are a very good team.

“Firstly, they’re well-coached, well organised and a very physical team.

“They’re coming off the back of a defeat [to Empoli], they’re smarting from that and will try to make things difficult for us.

“They’re a team which can aim for third place, so it’ll be a very difficult game for us.

“They have quality players like [Antonio] Candreva, [Stefano] Mauri, Keita [Baldé Diao] , [Filip] Djordjevic and [Miroslav] Klose.

“We have to be ready, and not think that it will be an easy game.

“It will be far from easy.”

The former Milan Coach said in an interview yesterday that Napoli can still rival his side and Roma for the Serie A title, and Allegri today reiterated those words.

“Napoli are there, but they were in the Scudetto hunt even when they were a long way behind.

“As I have said repeatedly, Napoli are a team with great quality and they’ve ended up seven points behind us.

“Seven points in a title race are a lot, but at the same time not many because there haven’t been many games.

“So I think Napoli will be up there with Roma to fight us [for the Scudetto.]”
