The Frenchman had previously stated his desire to remain at San Siro, and intimated that he would indeed be willing to accept a reduction in his €4m per year salary.

The former Roma defender had been on the fringes of the Rossoneri team at the start of the season, but has featured in the side in recent weeks after an injury to Alex.

Now newspaper Leggo is reporting that the Milan hierarchy have been so impressed with Mexes’ performances, they are ready to reward the centre-back with a new deal.

The 32-year-old would be a free agent at the end of the season, but the newspaper believes that the French international’s experience is deemed crucial to the Rossoneri, and he will be offered a new contract on a reduced salary.
