Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has responded to Phillipe Mexes’ interview published this this morning, in which he criticised his treatment by the club.

The Frenchman described the signing of Alex as ‘a slap in the face’ and declared that his future was at Milanello.

Speaking to assembled media outside the Lega Serie A headquarters, Galliani downplayed the comments.

“He [Mexes] is doing well,” the Vice-President told journalists.

“Yesterday he was clearly a bit angry, but my years as a director have made me fear people who aren’t angry.”

The Rossoneri are absent from European competition this season, but Galliani still found time to discuss the fortunes of Serie A sides in Europe.

“In the Champions League you play the best teams.

“In Europa League the squads are less expensively assembled, so if you play your best team you can do well.

“In the past we [Italian clubs] played our second string and things went wrong.”

Finally, the Vice-President assessed the struggles of on-loan striker Fernando Torres. The Spaniard arrived at Milanello in the summer on a two-year loan from Chelsea, but has managed just one goal in 10 games.

“I think he still has problems with his ankle,” Galliani said in the forward’s defence.

“With the injury he can’t be at 100 per cent yet.

“He’s a champion, with a little bit of patience he’ll get back to his best.”
