“I’ve known Aurelio for a lifetime. He’s intelligent, intuitive. I worked for his father Luigi and knew his mother, who unfortunately died last week. The De Laurentiis family gave me a great deal when I was young,” Ferrero told Il Mattino newspaper.

Like De Laurentiis, Ferrero is in movie production and has a chain of cinemas, but opted to invest in a football club later in life.

“I want to win. When you accept an invite to dinner, you don’t sit there and starve, do you? I’d like to give Aurelio a friendly disappointment just for one night.

“Aurelio had already tried to sign Napoli in the past, but he did it at the right time and invested heavily to get this club back to the top. He neglected his cinematic career to give this city a great team again, to remind fans of the days with Maradona.”

These two clubs could well be in negotiations during the January transfer window, as it’s reported Napoli will offer €10m to sign Manolo Gabbiadini.

“People seem to make a whisper into a thunderstorm on the transfer market. My jewels are locked in the safe, we want to fortify the team and the club. The more we win, the more we annoy the powers that be, as we are likeable irritants.

“Imagine the noise other sides would’ve made after seeing four penalties given against them in six rounds? We keep calm and respect everyone.”
