Simone Zaza felt “bitterness and rage” at only drawing 2-2. “Sassuolo were on a par with Roma.”

The striker netted twice in just over 120 seconds to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the Stadio Olimpico, but the 10 men fought back for a last-gasp draw.

“There is bitterness and rage, because we thought that we’d bring home the result,” Zaza told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is bitterness and rage, because we thought that we’d bring home the result,” Zaza told Sky Sport Italia.

“Having said that, we all put in a great performance and Sassuolo were on a par with Roma, one of the best teams in Italy.

“It’s wonderful to score against sides like Roma, though I have to learn to net against the smaller clubs too. I am proud of what I am doing and the credit also goes to my teammates.”

Zaza had gone off the boil after making his senior Italy debut, but explained the situation.

“I had a dip in form after the first call-up because I was not accustomed to all this, but then I got back to my usual levels.”
