“Looking towards Tuesday, what we need to put in a great performance will be a different spark, to be more courageous and daring compared to the Stadio Franchi.
“On Tuesday a Final awaits us and we will fight to finish top, but the fundamental thing is qualification. We care a great deal about doing well with Atletico, just as we know this is an appointment long-awaited by our fans.
“We consider ourselves a team on the verge of becoming one of the greats, so we must have the strength to take risks and be more daring, even in our choice of line-ups.
“A squad with important ambitions must be formed of 20 interchangeable players, so no matter who starts you can expect a certain performance.
“We might not have been sparkling against Fiorentina, but there were some positive signs. Overall, it’s only right to acknowledge, we didn’t do enough to deserve victory. It’s also true that if you don’t have a positive attitude in a game like that, you can lose.”
Juventus also needed only a point against Galatasaray last season to qualify, but lost 1-0 in a game played out over two days due to heavy snowfall.
“Last year we messed up, undoubtedly, but this time after a difficult start and the undeserved defeats in Madrid and Athens, we have the match point at our disposal to prove we’re worth the G8 in Europe,” added Buffon.
“We will not make proclamations or promises, but our squad is worth a place in the quarter-finals.”
