Roberto Donadoni forgave the referee after Parma’s defeat to Lazio and welcomed the new club owners.

The Ducali were beaten 2-1 at the Stadio Tardini, but an early goal was incorrectly disallowed and Lazio’s equaliser was beyond the awarded stoppages.

“It was a great first half and we had scored twice, unfortunately one was considered to be offside, and the team was playing well,” Donadoni told Sky Sport Italia.

“We conceded that goal on the stroke of half-time and the referee admitted his mistake of going 20-30 seconds over. I don’t know why, but it proved fatal, as going into the break 1-0 up would’ve been very different.

“A naive error gifted the winner to Lazio. We are here again crying over spilt milk, but a combative spirit is the only way out of this situation. We have to keep pushing and see what happens.

“It’s true they say you need to make your own luck, but when decisions are made that don’t depend on you, it’s harder. Everyone makes mistakes.

“We showed over the 90 minutes that we are not inferior to Lazio, but emerge empty-handed and that really hurts. We need to use that hurt and channel it into our football to get back on track.”

Only an hour before the game, Parma announced a deal to sell the club to Russian-Cypriot investors.

“It is important that if President Ghirardi is passing the club over to new hands, then we must all recognise what his family has done over the years and maintain the continuity of Parma,” added Donadoni.

“Hopefully the team can have a more relaxed mentality going forward for the rest of the season. The new owners arrived at the Collecchio training ground and presented themselves, but over the next few days we’ll have a better opportunity to get to know each other.”
