Manuel Pellegrini said “trust has been key” for Manchester City in securing a 2-0 victory away to Roma.

The Premier League holders had a dismal start to the Champions League, but a 3-2 win over already-qualified 10-man Bayern Munich and this evening’s result kept them in the tournament.

“Trust has been key. Against Rome in Manchester we played the worst game of the season and we drew. We were sure playing the way we have played in recent weeks we must win,” the Coach told Sky Sports.

“We recovered our normal performance, playing good pressing and playing well with the ball. We are a solid team, we are recovering the ball in the correct way.

“I had a lot of trust in what we could do. I said I didn’t want to talk about players not in the team. This team deserve a little more credit than the Press always give us.”

Manchester City go through second behind Bayern Munich, so could face Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Chelsea or Porto in the Last 16.

“We will start thinking about the Champions League again in February. Now we think about the Premier League. We are three points behind Chelsea.”
