Roberto Mancini was “fairly satisfied” with a 2-0 win at Chievo, but confessed this Inter squad is not built for his tactics.

“It’s an important victory, as clearly we are gaining confidence because despite the difficulties of facing Chievo we didn’t concede. I am fairly satisfied,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

This squad was inherited from Walter Mazzarri and the new boss has made no secret of the fact he wants reinforcements in January.

“At the moment this 4-3-1-2 is one of the few systems we can use. Dodo didn’t do badly up there for five minutes, but the squad is more rigorous with two wingers and well set-out on the field.

“It went well today, last Sunday we did well for the first half against Udinese. The lads are improving in training and putting that into practice in a match situation.

“A victory against Lazio would mean finishing the year on two straight wins and that’s good for morale. Of course we need to keep improving in many aspects.”

This was the first win since Mancini replaced Mazzarri and also the first clean sheet.

Mancini was spotted shouting at Mauro Icardi during the match and eventually substituted him.

“I need a striker to participate in the game. It wasn’t easy for Icardi, as Chievo closed down the spaces, but he’s young with great quality and needs to participate even off the ball.”

Mateo Kovacic is working as a trequartista, so Mancini explained why he opted to put the young Croatian there.

“Guarin is more of a midfielder, more physical and experienced. Kovacic can become a great internal midfielder, but he’s still young and needs to learn how to defend and go into challenges. He can become the complete midfielder.

“If we keep going deeper and deeper, then we’ll never improve, but I have to say we are getting a lot better. We were staying up and pressing for the ball, so the defence did very well tonight.

“Medel, poor thing, runs very hard. I need someone to cover the defence. We struggled against Udinese when Medel was left on his own in midfield by the others going too wide. He can improve too and pick up the pace, but he’s a very important player.”
