Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella has called the summit with Azzurri Coach Antonio Conte a 'step forward' for la Nazionale.

The meeting had been announced as an effort to find an agreement between Conte and the Serie A coaches, after the former's request for player meet-ups had been turned down.

Montella, who recently lost the prize for Coach of the Year at the Gala del Calcio to Conte himself, was happy about the way discussions went.

“It was a productive meeting with Conte and [FIGC President Carlo] Tavecchio,” Montella told the press after the event. “There was an exchange of opinions and in the future there must be a closer relationship between us.

“Everyone has given their full availability.”

Nonetheless, Montella deferred the responsibility for setting up the player meet-ups.

“We talked about it, but the final word does not belong to us. The clubs make their decisions for the footballers, the Coaches have little say in it.”

Even so, Montella was positive about this being a step forward for the national team.

“Absolutely. Every debate brings new ideas and the best things always start out as ideas.

“There will be an ongoing relationship, an ongoing debate that will include the fitness trainers so we can all work on the same line with each player. Our respective methods must be integrated with each other.”

Finally, Montella took the opportunity to give a few words about Tottenham, their next Europa League adversary.

“It is a fascinating challenge, but one that will take place in two months.

“No doubt these are confrontations that provide adrenaline for those who prepare them, those who play them and those who watch them. That's the beauty of football.”
