“I want concentration for this game,” warned Gasp in his Press conference. “It has been a bit of a strange week due to the post-Roma controversy and Diego Perotti’s ban.

“His absence will be sorely felt and it’s a shame the way things went. Diego paid the price for a gesture that he regrets. His irritability does not justify what happened, but there was a very tense atmosphere at the end of the game.”

Striker Perotti was handed a three-match ban using video evidence for kicking Jose Holebas on the back of the leg in the final minutes of the 1-0 defeat. He was also booked for dissent and therefore received another one-game suspension.

“I expect a Genoa side that is concentrated and alert. Torino haven’t changed that much compared to last season, apart from the two strikers, and are perhaps paying a price in Serie A for the strain of their Europa League adventure.

“Don’t forget last season we were winning against them and in the final minutes ended up losing. Football is unpredictable and the memory of that game should ensure we stay focused until the final whistle.”

Before the defeat to Roma, Genoa had been unbeaten in over two months and sitting pretty in third place, so how will they react to this setback?

“We are highly motivated. Our intention is to confirm all the good work we’ve done in 16 games this season, then the Christmas break will allow us to recharge the batteries.

“We don’t want to shoulder ourselves with the responsibility of being considered a big club. Serie A is a difficult League and we mustn’t get big-headed.”

Juraj Kucka and Rolando Mandragora are injured, while goalkeeper Mattia Perin and striker Perotti are suspended.

Genoa squad for Torino: Antonini, De Maio, Izzo, Burdisso, Pinilla, Antonelli, Roncaglia, Marchese, Lestienne, Fetfatzidis, Greco, Edenilson, Lamanna, Falque, Matri, Prisco, Sommariva, Sturaro, Rosi, Rincon, Bertolacci, Mussis
