Conte is said to be furious that the Lega Serie A ruled clubs involved in European competition can opt out of releasing their players for the get-together from February 9 to 11.

That means Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Inter, Fiorentina and Torino could all withhold their stars.

“I don’t think a get-together is that important,” Lippi told Rai Sport.

“If I can give a small suggestion, I’d say the real rapport to be stabilised is the one between the Italy boss and the club Coaches, with the objective of collaborating together consistently.

“In my view the CT should reach an agreement with his club colleagues to avoid calling the more important players for friendlies. Otherwise the same ones play non-stop.”

Lippi worked with Conte during his days as a Juventus midfielder, so was asked to comment on the strange decision to resign as Coach one day into pre-season training.

“Conte was one of the many leaders I had at Juventus. There are technical leaders, like Zidane, and silent leaders like Del Piero. Conte was a leader by example, as he was always first to training with such hunger and determination.

“As for his departure, these are great love affairs that sometimes provoke strong reactions. There’s no doubt that between Conte and Juve it was a love affair that fell apart in a small misunderstanding.

“Clearly this is already Max Allegri’s Juventus now. It is the Juve of intelligence, wisdom, geniality that was build on the very strong foundations laid by Conte.

“You can see Allegri’s intelligence in waiting for the right moment to change.”
