It would be absolutely remarkable if Carpi were to go into the top flight, as in 2012-13 the club reached promotion into Serie B for the first time in its history.

They finished 12th in Italy’s second division last season, but have now won 12 games, drawn seven and lost only two, scoring 39 goals and conceding 18.

“My lads have enjoyed an absolutely incredible first half of the season,” Coach Fabrizio Castori told Sky Sport Italia.

“I didn’t expect them to grow to such a degree, but now I am aware of just what this squad can do. We must train well and play with intensity, not looking at the table.

“We need to evaluate some situations in January due to injuries. If that is not possible, then I will happily continue with these players.”

If they did get into the top flight, Carpi would likely be playing against Sassuolo, who are also a club from the provinces of Modena.

Meanwhile, Modena – the main club of the city – remain in Serie B.
