“This is not a play-off for third place, but it is a great source of pride that we are up there. Last season we played very badly here, one of our worst performances of the season and even conceded when we were a man up.
“How are the lads after the Christmas break? Some have a tan, others less so, but they are all well rested and raring to go. Lorenzo De Silvestri has a slight fitness problem, but the others are available.”
Those do not include Manolo Gabbiadini, who this morning said goodbye in order to complete his transfer to Napoli.
“We are losing a great player and a good lad, but another will arrive of equal value. We know that something is needed and want to reinforce the squad. Some will leave, others will come in. Those who could depart with the right offer are Sansone, Fedato and Wszolek.

Sergio Romero could also be sold over the January transfer window, as Emiliano Viviano tries to regain his place after almost three months out injured.

“Is my line-up predictable? No, I will shock you. I bet at least three names you won’t be able to get.”
This will always be a special fixture for Mihajlovic, who won numerous trophies wearing the Lazio jersey.
On the other hand, Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero is a self-confessed Roma supporter.
“Well, nobody’s perfect,” joked the Coach. “I cheer on Lazio generally, but I want to win this time. I’m also very close to Djordjevic, as I gave him is debut.”
