“Samp are the surprise package of the campaign, but I always had faith Lazio would do well. I invite the fans to come in huge numbers and support the players. Before the derby, there is Sampdoria, so we’ll only think about Roma from Monday night.
“The next few games are important to see what we can do this season, but the closest fixture is always the most crucial. We want to prove that we deserve to be in third place and bring home the victory.”
Lazio go into the Derby della Capitale with Roma next week, so there is the risk some players could hold back to avoid injury or costly cards.
Federico Marchetti, Lucas Biglia, Stefan Radu and Pedro Luis Cavanda are all one booking away from suspension.
“The only thing that counts is the game with Sampdoria. I repeat, tomorrow’s match is the most important. I will evaluate the condition of the players and their characteristics for how best to trouble Sampdoria. I am relaxed, because I know that whoever I pick will be ready.
“Candreva and Biglia are available and have been training with the group since December 30, though they still lack match fitness.”
This week in a friendly against Real Carsoli, Lazio tested a 4-2-3-1 system.
“We have many strong forward players, so this is an option that would allow us to field more of them simultaneously,” confessed Pioli.
