“We created many opportunities and proved we could reboot after the ugly defeat to Lazio. I am pleased that we kept a clean sheet, which hadn’t happened for a while.

“This season out of 18 games we only lost two, one of them on a last-minute penalty to Inter. In the other we were too bad to be true and I had faith the lads would not repeat that attitude.”

Luis Muriel will have his medical with Sampdoria tomorrow, but Eto’o is also on the cards, as his agent was in the stands for this game sat next to Blucerchiati directors.

“Muriel is the only player I wanted to replace Gabbiadini. He did great things at Lecce, then lost his way at Udinese, also through his own fault. Now he’ll come here, we will try to get the best out of him.

“Did I have a phone conversation with Eto’o? No, this week the only person I spoke to was my wife…” smirked Mihajlovic.

“As you know, I don’t talk about players who are not in my squad.”
