Eusebio Di Francesco felt Sassuolo had a goal incorrectly disallowed in their 2-1 Coppa Italia defeat to Milan.

The Round of 16 result at San Siro means that the Rossoneri will go through to face Torino or Lazio in the quarter-finals next month.

“It was an open game,” Sassuolo Coach Di Francesco told Rai Sport.

“We had a valid goal ruled out that could’ve changed the dynamics of the second half, but we did well to get it level again anyway.

“It was a bad call from the linesman, but I’m not going to say that’s because Sassuolo are a ‘small’ club. It’s just a shame that the rules are meant to favour the attacking side when in doubt and they rarely do.

“We were a little naive on the goal, but these things can happen. I picked lads who hadn’t played much so far this season. Milan did better on the individual incidents, while we were a little disorganised.

“Nonetheless, it was on a knife edge till the final whistle.”
