This round marks the midway stage of the season and the Blucerchiati are in fifth place after seven wins, nine draws and only two defeats.

“I’d like to discuss the present and the future, clarifying a few things so nobody loses their heads,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We were born lucky, as I always tell my players, because nature allowed us to have the best job in the world. In order to play at the highest level you cannot relax for a moment, because you are constantly stressed and under the spotlight. There’s no gratitude in football, no recognition of achievements.

“You have all become very critical,” Mihajlovic told reporters. “We are a team with balls and are not afraid of responsibility, but we mustn’t forget there are far bigger clubs behind us.

“That means we cannot afford to make mistakes with sides weaker than us or at our level. This is why we cannot underestimate Parma.”

Being in fifth place, it’s inevitable for Sampdoria to make a push for European qualification.

“Our objective is to be in the top half of the table. I have always said that. Obviously if in 17 rounds we are still up there, then we can think about the Champions League. A lot also depends on the market.

“I hoped to have a player ready to replace Gabbiadini, but I think Correa will be in his best form in three or four months. He’s a young player and has to grow physically. Just look at how long it took Dybala and Felipe Anderson to make their mark.”

Sampdoria did have a deal with Udinese for Luis Muriel, but terms had to be renegotiated after a thigh injury was discovered in the medical.

Samuel Eto’o is also thought to be on the verge of completing his transfer from Everton.
