Gianfranco Zola told Cagliari to be “belligerent” in their relegation dogfight with Udinese today.

It kicks off at 14.00 GMT at the Stadio Friuli, click here for a match preview.

“We are going to Udinese with belligerent intentions,” said the Coach, promising an aggressive approach.

“We need to make up lost ground and will leave no stone unturned in our search for points. I expect a tense and irritable game, so we must make the most of that situation to take away Udinese’s confidence and build our own.”

Cagliari got their first win under Zola last week, beating Cesena 2-1, but also lost in the Coppa Italia at Parma.

“Our priority was always Serie A and this game. The Coppa gave me some god indications and the change of tactics could prove useful in future.”

Zola gave new signings Josef Husbauer and Duje Cop their debuts, while Marco Sau returned from a lengthy lay-off.

“Both Husbauer and Cop did good things, but they still need to find their fitness levels and get used to the tempo in Serie A. I’ve been in Sau’s position and know with muscular injuries it’s fundamental to relax.”

Andrea Cossu, Victor Ibarbo, Antonio Balzano and Luca Ceppitelli all miss out, but new goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic gets to face his former club.

Cagliari squad for Udinese: Brkic, Colombi, Cragno; Avelar, Benedetti, Capuano, Gonzalez, Murru, Pisano, Rossettini; Conti, Crisetig, Dessena, Donsah, Ekdal, Husbauer, Joao Pedro; Cop, Farias, Longo, Sau
