Toronto FC’s directors and current players have spoken out to express their delight at the capture of Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco.

Today’s statement confirming the 27-year-old’s agreement to move from Turin to Toronto on a Bosman deal in June contained reaction from Giovinco, as well as a number of his future MLS team’s current members.

“Late last year, MLSE made it clear that our commitment to TFC and the club’s fans would not waiver,” began Larry Tanenbaum, Chairman of the Board for MLSE.

“In fact, our resolve was only strengthened to do whatever it takes to deliver a winner.

“The addition of Jozy Altidore last week and Sebastian Giovinco today, which lead the efforts by Tim Bezbatchenko to strengthen the roster, is a testament to that commitment.

“We look forward to a great season in an expanded and improved BMO Field and thank our fans for their continued support.”

Toronto FC Head Coach Greg Vanney also praised the player for his set of skills.

“Sebastian Giovinco is a complete player with the ability to not only create but also to score goals as he’s proven throughout his career in Italy.

“We are very excited for the 2015 season and adding another important piece to an already solid core group only makes us stronger.”

Former Roma midfielder Michael Bradley, currently playing with Toronto FC, will meet again his Serie A adversary.

“Adding a player like Sebastian Giovinco will be a major addition to our club. Having played against him many times in Italy, I know what he is capable of.

“We have added a great playmaker and true talent and I cannot wait for him to join us.”

Chief Commercial Officer for MLSE Dave Hopkinson added his voice to the consensus and spoke of an historic moment for the club.

“Today’s signing marks one of the most important moments in Toronto FC history, and as we look forward to the opening of an expanded and improved BMO Field in May, our supporters and partners have made clear this off-season that they are fully behind the vision of this club to be the class of MLS on the pitch and off.”

Finally the player's own agent, Andrea D'Amico, was enthused about the transfer.

“I am thrilled for Seba and equally happy for Toronto FC and its fans.

“This truly feels like a match that was meant to be and I would like to thank everyone at MLSE that made today possible including the owners, Tim Leiweke and Tim Bezbatchenko. We look forward to an exciting summer and much success for the club.”
